Noah’s ark built in the Netherlands

This ark is made to resemble Noah’s ark in the Bible
story in the book of Genesis.

Schagen, NETHERLANDS – Two by two, the animals trotted,
stomped, and climbed aboard the ark in Noah’s day, the story goes.
Today, builder Johan Huibers hopes visitors will come see his model
of Noah’s ark in many, many pairs.

He also hopes the enormous exhibit will renew interest in Christianity.
In the past 50 years, church attendance has dropped drastically in
the Netherlands.

The ark, built out of cedar and pine, took him two years to build.
The biblical ark was five times larger than this boat. However,
Huiber’s ark is still quite large – two-thirds the length of a football
field and three stories high.

“It’s past comprehension! I knew the story of Noah, but I had
no idea the boat would have been so big,” said visitor Mary Louise
Starosciak as she wandered through the massive floating museum
docked in the Schagen harbor.

Models of elephants, giraffes, and even dinosaurs in their actual
sizes adorn the ark. Eventually, a petting zoo with living bunnies,
chicks, and a camel will be perched on top of the ark. The boat will
pull up anchor to voyage to other European countries as well.
